Ehlert Bryan DC’s engineers are trained in the best practices for designing and specifying GREEN buildings to meet or exceed the project requirements. The most sustainable structures are those which reuse existing buildings, and EBDC is proud of our award-winning building conversions, renovations and expansions. In addition, our economized structural designs reduce excess materials and utilize recycled content and renewable lumber resources.
EBDC helps to reduce environmental impacts from construction by using locally sourced materials, recycled content and low VOCs. We use state-of-the art analysis software to economize structural material volume, promote renewable resources and emerging sustainable technologies like engineered composite heavy timber (CLT, GLU-LAM), support green roofs / photovoltaic solar arrays / storm water retention, and limit embodied carbon in specified concrete mix designs and through careful selection of other low-carbon structural buildings materials.

Senior Project Manager
Derek joined Ehlert Bryan in 2007 after earning his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Virginia and has been a guiding force in engineering and project management at EB ever since. He has successfully managed just about every type of building project, and is currently specializing in multi-family and school construction. Both inside and outside the office, Derek is a widely respected resource in solving complex challenges and advancing Ehlert Bryan’s understanding of technical issues, construction techniques, project management and structural design processes.

Managing Principal
Bill has served as the Managing Principal at Ehlert Bryan DC since 2015. His extensive professional background in the Washington DC metro area informs his day-to-day involvement in projects of all types and sizes.
With a wide variety of project experience, Bill has continually taken an interest in industry innovations. He has become a leader and promoter in the emerging market of engineered wood heavy timber and cross-laminated timber (CLT) construction.
Bill has also shown a sustained commitment to the elevation and advancement of the structural engineering profession. Throughout his career, Bill has held leadership positions in the Structural Engineers Association of Metropolitan Washington (SEA-MW).
